Hart High School Parent Newsletter March 3, 2025 Hello Pirate Nation, Blink and it is MARCH…..crazy how time flies. Less than 80 days of school for students– except for seniors, graduation season is just around the corner. As we turn the corner to Spring (thank goodness), our focus for March will be on: Preparing for state (M-Step) and national testing (P-SAT, SAT) which takes place in April. Please encourage your child to use OnToCollege SAT prep, it’s free to them and is proven to help them best prepare for the PSAT and SAT. Scheduling students for next school year. We’ll start getting into classrooms to begin having conversations with students regarding class and program options for next school year. Spring sports start March 10. Make sure you have physicals and all necessary documents needed to participate in on time. Lastly, graduation and all that goes with that. Commencement takes a lot of planning and organizing, but it’ll be here before we know it. Four weeks into the semester and we are all settled in with our staff, no new people in new places–that’s a comforting feeling. Speaking of staff, if you haven’t heard, this will be Mr. Ramseyer’s last semester teaching, as he has decided to hang it up at the end of the school year. If you get a chance, I would encourage you to express your appreciation for all he's done for Hart High School. He will certainly be missed. Congratulations are in order for: The high school Band, who earned a 1 at Festival and qualified for the state competition. The Quiz Bowl team, for winning the conference and qualifying for the state tournament. Competitive Cheer and Girls’ Basketball, for their conference championships. That’s about it for now. As always, my door is always open and my direct line is: (231) 873-6226. Have a wonderful day, and Go Pirates! Sincerely, Ken Byard, Principal Hart High School

Hart High School Parent Newsletter February 6, 2025 Hello Pirate Nation, I hope this newsletter finds you healthy as we continue to fight through all sorts of sickness at the high school. Just a friendly reminder that if your child is sick, please keep them home for the sake of all. If that sickness turns into anything prolonged, a doctor's note would be appreciated. Since my last newsletter, we have had a retirement in our teaching staff. Mr. Slotegraaf has decided to close the book on his teaching career and is moving on. We wish him all the best, and thank him for his many years of service. We were very fortunate to find a long-term substitute teacher certified in Art, Lauren Miller. Lauren comes to us from Arizona with a passion for teaching art and a love for developing Art curriculum. We are beyond excited and lucky to have found Lauren (especially in the middle of a school year). Please welcome her when you get a chance. Talk about a great week at the high school, try this on: Competitive Cheer wins the conference (again), Wrestling wins their district (again), Boys’ Basketball wins all their games for the week, Girl’s Basketball wins all their games for the week (including a good one against Shelby), we have great participation in Snowcoming week, and the toilets are fixed…not sure it gets any better than that for a week :). Switching gears, when we aren't winning and things aren’t going so great, school is a safe place to fail forward to learn from our mistakes. Sometimes as parents (myself included) we want to jump in and save the day, my ask...don’t. Let them struggle, let them build some grit, some perseverance, let them try to figure it out. Empower them with the opportunity to critically think and problem-solve. Trust me, they will be better off in the long run if you do. That’s about it for now. As always, my door is always open and my direct line is: (231) 873-6226. Have a wonderful day, and Go Pirates! Sincerely, Ken Byard, Principal Hart High School
