Floats

On Friday, September 25th, Hart High School continued its Homecoming festivities with the parade, showcasing each class’s float along with many other parade entries. Students are given two weeks to build their class float. During the float building stage, each class meets at a chosen location, where they discuss plans and work together to get their float ready for Homecoming. Sometimes it can be hard to come up with ideas for float design, especially when it comes to filling all the space on the float, but in the end, it is all worth it when it all comes together. “I really enjoyed the process of float building and seeing the vision come to life!” stated junior Liliana VanAgtmael when asked about her experience with float building. Beyond the class floats, some other entries included in this year’s parade were the HHS Marching Band, Hart Athletic Boosters, this year’s Homecoming court members, and floats for each sport’s team/school organization who chose to participate.

Before the parade began, each  class’s float was judged and scored. Several teachers judged the floats based on several criteria, including school spirit, appearance, creativity, and its representation of the assigned theme. Then the scores are added together for a final score for each float. Going along with this year's homecoming theme of Rio, each class was assigned an aspect of Rio on which their float was based: Freshmen had “Rio After Dark,” sophomores had “Copacabana,” juniors had “the Rainforest”, and seniors had “Carnaval.”

The Float building competition came out with the juniors taking first place, freshmen in second, seniors taking 3rd, and sophomores in last. The parade was a great way to start off Homecoming night, and the class floats were a fun way to display school spirit and creativity, along with some friendly competition among grades.
