On Sunday, September 20th the Hart Pirates kicked off their Homecoming week with their annual Powderpuff event at the football stadium. In the first set of games, the seniors battled the freshmen and the juniors competed against the sophomores, which proved to be a close game. The game remained tied until the juniors took the first lead just before halftime, making the score seven to zero. The score remained the same throughout the second half, and the juniors were able to move to the championship with their win over the sophomores. The seniors, on the other hand, had a hot start at the beginning of their first game against the freshmen and were leading twenty to zero at halftime. The seniors moved on to the championship game after a twenty-six to zero game.
The seniors were on a roll as the championship game started leading twenty to zero at halftime against the juniors. During halftime the senior boys cheer team put on a half time show, doing silly, exciting, and nerve-racking stunts at the 50 yard line. The seniors continued to play very well and defeated the juniors forty-four to zero, winning the powderpuff championship. Their victory marked their fourth year in a row as undefeated Powderpuff Champions! Keagen Monroe, one of the coaches of the senior powderpuff team highlighted his favorite thing about Sunday night saying, "Winning is cool but getting the class together to work toward something is my favorite thing.” Calyn Eisenlohr, a senior player, also commented that her favorite thing about the game was “How hyped everyone was” adding that she also enjoyed the fact that, “[no one] scored on us!”
The sophomore and freshmen teams competed against each other for third and fourth place. The game got heated as the teams tied the score heading into halftime. Although both teams put in great effort, the sophomores stepped up for the second half and were ready to play, defeating the freshmen twenty-one to six. Elin Walker, a freshman, noted that her first powderpuff game experience “was really fun and funny!” Overall, the weather was beautiful, the players sported brightly colored outfits, and the stands presented one of the largest crowds HHS has seen at a Homecoming powderpuff event. The Pirates’ energy and enthusiasm has carried over into Spirit Week as they prepare for this Friday’s gridiron matchup against Orchard View.
